Sumatra Orangutan Adventure Trip – Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang
Bukit Lawang is a small village at the end of the road, bordered directly with Gunung Leuser National Park, in the west side of Medan City. Its about 135km from the North Sumatra International Airport and 65 km From the Medan city. It takes about 3.5 to 4 Hours ride from the Airport. This village became famous and get a lot of attention from the international tourist due to the Sumatran Orangutan Rehabilitation facility was set up here. Sadly those facilities are no longer exist due to the flash flood on 2013. The village remains open and welcoming tourist.
Bukit Lawang is the easiest and most famous ENTRANCE into the Sumatra Exotic National Park. Bukit Lawang sit on about 400m above sea level. Those hills in the national park sure higher than that. The temperature on average is 32- 36 C. Its warm and humid. Bring your thin and comfort clothing. There is no specific rules how to dress up here,but be polite and respectful is always good thing.
There is no Malaria illness cases in this region. Dengue fever is quite common in this particular place. Bring your own Mosquito spray or repellent. The local Mosquito repellent contains 13 % Deed only.
Raining season coming between End of August until end of December. The busiest time of the year is on July until September. The lowest season is during most raining time of the year which is on November to December. Make sure bring your raining and wet outfit also raincoat.
There is Public transport operated from the KNO airport. Its called ALMASAR. This bus also run to Berastagi Highland. You will be transfer to different bus in the medan City with the same bus company. This bus take a very long time and little bit complicated.
There is also public bus run from the City of Medan located at mawar bakery at the west end of the city. The bus is called Pembangunan Semesta. Its runs every 30 minutes. The last bus will be at 5pm. This public bus is not Air Conditioned and stop and go multiple times. Taking this transport its not recommended.
